About Vinny
Welcome to my small corner of the internet. I’m a space professional with over 20 years of experience in the Aerospace field. Most of my career has been centered around software development and management. With roles including Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, Software Lead, Space Operations Director, and Chief Technology Officer. I’ve worked on the entire space tack from mission operations to satellite systems.
I currently work at Kleos as Chief Technology Officer. Kleos provides signal and geospatial intelligence data provided by a fleet of low earth orbit satellites. We use clusters of four satellites to geolocate maritime and terrestrial transmissions.
My hobbies include reading science fiction, especially work from the Golden Age of science fiction. I also mountain bike, backpack, and snow ski. I’m constantly working on a stream of software hobby projects, mostly around self-hosting useful tools and home automation. I’m also contribute to a few open source projects. I’ve also recently taken up sourdough bread baking and some small electronics projects.
This blog, I hope, will be a place where I can document some of these hobbies along with any random idea or interesting tidbit I come across. I hope you enjoy it!
Blog Components
This blog is generated by Jekyll. The theme is derived from Carte-Noire by Jacob Tomlinson. The generated static site is self-hosted by a simply configured nginx web server. This sits behind another nginx server configured as a reverse proxy and https terminator. This uses a pretty slick system of automatically generated configuration files (via nginx-proxy/docker-gen) and automatic LetsEncrypt certificate generation (via nginx-proxy/acme-companion). Finally, docker has made my life much easier by containerizing all these components (and more). Additionally, git is used for configuration management of the blog which is self-hosted with gitea.
